  1. Thanks, Lynn, for your latest posts about biography, especially about looking over the shoulders of Montaigne while he was writing one of his essays. What an image!

    It is, of course, a truism that the older you get the more you appreciate biographies, but isn’t there more to this?

    Nietzsche has a remark about our craving or drive towards causality. We demand it! So, isn’t reading biographies for us ordinary people a faux building of sculptures of ourselves?

    • Reading bios of Alfred Tarski and Raymond Carver right now. Must be the season.
